What Mug Are You Using Today?

I did find out during our visits there that I don't like German potato salad....it's WARM. 😭

Aww, but German potato salad is the only potato salad I like. We eat ours warm when it's first cooked, but we don't warm up the leftovers - it is fantastic as cold leftovers!

I'm sure I would love it cold!! 😉

It's just that, in my mind, potato salad = cold. To be fair, when I ordered the German potato salad, I didn't know it would be warm, so when I took a big ol' bite of it, I was like 🫢😳😐😵😭

I can't remember anything else about the flavor of it - I blacked out after the warm part. 🤣🤣🤣

I'm curious what the taste difference is.
Potatoes are delicious in any form so it's probably good regardless.
My mom makes a good simple potato salad with olives, bacon, and water chestnuts for an added texture. I don't think she adds egg anymore.

Now, i want potato salad 😂

😂 that reminds me of how it feels to drink something only to realize once you take a sip, that it's not what you thought it was.

Today's mug is from the Texas Renaissance Festival, something I'd been going to since my 21st birthday. Every year they give out mugs to folks who paid for the King's feast, which is food and a show, and you get bottomless refills for the mug during the show. We had never gone before, but we were moving out of state soon and decided for our last renfest to try out the feast.

Eh, I wish I could say I enjoyed it. The show was bawdy without being clever, and the food was okay - I think what you're really paying for is those bottomless mugs. The renfest itself has gotten ridiculously crowded and more expensive over the years, and there are a suspiciously large amount of mass market items labeled as homemade crafts. We always went because it was fun the first few years, and then it just became something you do because you've always done it, you know? That, and the birds of prey show is always neat. Birds of prey aside, in all honesty that probably would have been our last year of attendance even if we hadn't moved. Still, the feast was nice in that it got us out of the crowds and sun for a while, and I will always be grateful to the renfest for opening my eyes to the existence of the glory that is pickle soup.

So cool! We have Ren Fest in Michigan, too! I have a couple similar mugs, but I just purchased them at the little shop - I never did do the King's Feast (those people probably get a special mug).

I went for a few years in my 20's and I took my kids a couple times, but I have no desire to return. I do like the turkey legs and all of the artists, I just can't handle the crowds anymore. 😶‍🌫️:old

I'm with you on the turkey legs, but yeah, they aren't quite good enough to brave the crowds. And I think my husband may have gone to a Michigan renfest, too . . . I seem to recall a mug or something of his with a Michigan renfest logo I'll try and find it. I wonder if y'all went to the same one? There are three big ones in Texas that I knew of; Scarborough, Sherwood, and Texas. I'd never been to Scarborough, but Sherwood was nice, with smaller crowds.

Yes, I just can't with the crowds, and the parking, and the heat, and the mud...

There's only one in Michigan. It's in Holly, MI and it runs from July (I think) until beginning of September.

This is my "mug" (I guess it's more of a beer stein (?)). It's from 2003, so I would have been 23 yrs old 👶😭 :

Oh, I really like that color!
2003, huh? That doesn't feel that long ago, but I'm one of those folks who still thinks of the 1990s as last decade.
