Today's mug is from the Texas Renaissance Festival, something I'd been going to since my 21st birthday. Every year they give out mugs to folks who paid for the King's feast, which is food and a show, and you get bottomless refills for the mug during the show. We had never gone before, but we were moving out of state soon and decided for our last renfest to try out the feast.

Eh, I wish I could say I enjoyed it. The show was bawdy without being clever, and the food was okay - I think what you're really paying for is those bottomless mugs. The renfest itself has gotten ridiculously crowded and more expensive over the years, and there are a suspiciously large amount of mass market items labeled as homemade crafts. We always went because it was fun the first few years, and then it just became something you do because you've always done it, you know? That, and the birds of prey show is always neat. Birds of prey aside, in all honesty that probably would have been our last year of attendance even if we hadn't moved. Still, the feast was nice in that it got us out of the crowds and sun for a while, and I will always be grateful to the renfest for opening my eyes to the existence of the glory that is pickle soup.
