What Special Treat or Yummy Did Your Flock Get Today?

Ours got watermelon and broccoli flowers and strawberries (the ones that the robins pecked at) and chickweed from the garden weeding.

Well, with this heat, I've been giving the flock cool treats like cucumbers from the fridge, a watermelon, cantalope......some lettuce from the garden, a cabbage......garden veggies and some fruits, basically.

Not today, necessarily, but the chickens love it when the grandkids come since neither finishes all their food at meals plus, in the summer, there are always watermelon rinds and sweet corn cobs. It is sort of instant compost.

Zucchini, grapes, strawberry tops, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, bit of shredded cheese on top - my farmer neighbor thinks it's hilarious that I give my chickens what he calls "salad".

They love it. I go out and say, "chick, chick, chick...treat!" and they go insane. They eat it and then make a pile of chickens (six of them) and close their eyes like, "wow, that was goooood"

Mealworms right before bed.

Totally spoiled and I don't care, my kids have all moved out and my first grandchild isn't due til Feb.

Today mine got some beets, beet tops, asparagus, broccoli, and the white from a hardboiled egg. The beets and the egg were by far the favorite.

This morning I topped off my pullets grower feed (looks like mashed up corn), topped off their water and brought out a head of iceberg lettuce. Yesterday it was a handfull of cubed zuchini and other squash. The day before they got leftover roast (that went really really fast) and some shredded cheddar. I think I gave them eggs on Sunday.

I like coming outside to see them because they all gather up at the door and spill out when I open it... Chickens awash at my feet.

I can pick up my favorite BR "Pilgrim," and my baby RIR in the palm of my hand. They let their little legs dangle and cluck little hellos to me while I kiss the top of their little heads and combs. Then I try that with my Wine-dotters and they want nothing to do with me. I wonder if that has something to do with who hatched 'em because my BRs and RIRs are so friendly and the others don't like me much.

I have been giving mine watermelon. spinach, romaine, grapes. blueberries, cantaloupe, and raisins since they were only 10 days old. I now have 19, that range from 12 days to 4 weeks old, that all love it and seem to be very healthy.
