What Special Treat or Yummy Did Your Flock Get Today?

Today they got frozen strawberries to try to beat the heat.

Mine are still pretty young, but they aren't little by any stretch! They got a patch of grass from the yard (they get one every day), 10 small blueberries that were going soft on me which they used for a quick game of Keep-Away, and they got to try live crickets for the first time. I picked up 20 small ones while I was in PetSmart today. They disappeared in about 3.6 seconds! Right now they have a refreshingly chilled ear of steamed corn in the brooder box that a few have decided to pick at. The rest are hiding from the big scary ear of corn that might rise up and kill them.

(I know this seems like a lot, but they don't get treats every day!)

My 8 week olds got a leftover pancake from breakfast and a clump of soil and grass from the yard.

Left over popcorn and bread.Usually whatever is left from the day or getting a little to old for us to eat.I love watching them run after me when I come out first thing in the morning,the girls know that when they see mama they are getting treats.

some grass, a watermelon rind, the rest of a half-eaten peach (they fought over the pit after) and a handful of corn. oh yeah, and some wild raspberries from the yard that i was SUPPOSED to freeze for jam later

Ok it is gross, but I smashed a Giant Locus against the tree and found grub on the ground and gave them to my girls !

Today they got orange and lemon slices, butter lettuce and some pathetic blossom-end-rotted tomatoes that were too small to be useful for anything else.

We canned peach jelly today so we gave our chickens a rather large amount of peach pulp strained from the juice. They ate it without stopping till it was gone. I swear they must of licked the bowl clean.

I gave my tweens yogurt today. It was the organic whole milk kind, my son didn't really like the peach flavor, so I put it in 2 little dishes in the pen. Do they have tongues? I think they completely licked it clean! Also scattered some dry oatmeal and they loved it!

Must be the day for cooling fruits today, because my flock lucked out with cantaloupe, blueberries, and strawberries straight from the fridge!
