What Special Treat or Yummy Did Your Flock Get Today?

Quote:
NOT gross. Ours love any insects we can find! Their fav so far are grubs. My youngest son loves to get a dozen or so and then toss them in and watch the mayhem. They know when he shows up with his little green bucket that it's time to go nuts!

I SCORED today, and so my chickens did too. I got a FULL garbage bag of cabbage leaf culls from the grocery store for 99 cents. They also got a few ears of corn and some wormy tomatoes from the garden. Happy chickens make tasty chickens and tasty eggs!

Since we're in an unrelenting heat wave, I froze some seedless grapes cut in half and then stirred them into plain yogurt. They would eat the yogurt and when one of them found a grape it was a free-for all! It was like watching a football game with lots of fumbles. One would have a grape in her mouth and someone else would grab it lightning fast, then another would grab it from that one. It was so much fun watching them. Who would have known that chickens would be such entertainment!

I am truly blessed!

I also put ice cubes in their water and when they melt enough to get a hold on, they grab them for a fun game of keep-away. What are these poor chickens going to do when I go back to work next week? I'm going to have separation anxiety

I just gave my girls and guys a bag of thawed corn - then I just barely escaped with my life when I picked up the empty bowls! Forty greedy chickens followed me to the front door hoping the bowls would magically refill themselves.

Mine got swiss chard this morning, fresh from the garden. I just read that someone fed their chickens a slug? They will eat slugs? Boy are they in for a treat soon. Usually they get a bit of watermelon, or canteloupe, or a tomato cut in half. (w 7 chickens it's pretty easy)

Mine LOVE Strawberries, that was the morning treat. The afternoon treat was cheese then large mealworms. The after dinner treat was a cupcake left over. They are quite spoiled.

Ok, so this is going to be sooooo boring but I've got to post cuz I can! It's gonna be boring because I'm new to the whole "what chickens can eat" thing. Heck, I've only owned chickens for 4 months now! I gave mine plain yogurt, leftover tomato, raisins and rolled oats. Woohoo!

Now that I know I can safely expand their diet it should get more interesting.
