WHAT THE HECK!!!!!!!

light, feed is non medicated chick starter, bird seen, calcium and grit supplement, and occasional mealworms... Mine won't eat vegetables.
You've been providing calcium to male birds?

What protein percentage is your chick starter?

Mine lay eggs sometimes, sometimes they don't....I don't have artificial light on them. The only light they get is ambient day light...what comes in through the window. If in light constantly, they will not live as long as females that aren't under constant light. Button quail are more prone to "burn out" than other species of quail.
They lay the largest egg compared to their size than any other bird. Cranking eggs out all the time will shorten their lifespan.

Took awhile for them to lay, then layed like crazy for a few months, then quit, then started up again. They have been repeating this pattern for 2 1/2 years now.

I did some research which turned up the conclusion that chick starter is not ideal food for quail. Their conclusion is that 20% protein is fine as long as they are getting the required levels of lysine, methionine and one other component. Unfortunately chick starter does not contain the necessary amounts of lysine and methionine.
