What to do about Hunting dogs killing my chickens

The story behind the law when it was made is there was an incident where somebody’s hunting dog ran onto somebody’s property and the dog didn’t do anything to the owner or to the property but the owner being over paranoid immediately shot the dog. Which I think it’s completely wrong thing as that dog did nothing . It’s a big big hunting county. They good majority of people I know. and I have no problem with it and if I was willing to wake up and freeze my butt off at 5 AM I may join them but I’m not. It’s a tough situation especially when you have No particular problem with hunting in no particular problem with hunting dogs as long as they’re not killing your flock
Unfortunately, dogs can't read "posted" signs, or recognize property lines, but they can & should be trained not to go after anything except that which they've been trained to hunt.

What you seem to be advocating is for reason to die and will the law into your own hands.
So do you or do you not intend to harm either the dogs in question or their owners before there is any trespass?
I’m sorry you got the wrong impression off of my posts. I really don’t want for anybody to get harmed. But if there is a known problem of certain dogs coming onto your property I wish there was something people could do before something bad happens. Instead of waiting for something bad to happen. But more of a solution that is illegal and doesn’t get dogs chickens or people harmed. I would never hurt a dog just for simply coming on to my property. If that were the case I would’ve hurt many many of dogs but I don’t see a need for that for just passing through

I exactly agree with what you’re saying. I do remember the news story many years ago about the dog being shot and I didn’t agree with it. Because like you said dogs can’t read a note trespassing signs. That particular situation the dog didn’t harm anybody or anything And it was a one time situation. And I have come to expect from time to time a hunting dog coming through my property because my property backs up to hunting ground but it’s about a 2 acre tract through the woods. And they have Only cause a problem one time and I don’t know that they were really hunting dogs in that case.

Are we still feeding villagers? And I feed my family just fine with one deer and no dogs needed... I havent had any issues locating using knowledge of tracks/tree markings/ and deer beds. My nose may not smell like a dogs but what I see with my eyes (not my dogs) tells me exactly where the deer have been and are going....I was raised with the knowledge that a hunter goes in the woods and hunts. Doesnt sit back and wait for his dogs to round them up for him. Oh and I bow hunt not black powder. The weapons are strictly protection for my family for the black bears and coyotes
This is how hunting should be.

We may be getting a little particular about hunting methods. If we want to get real stupid, which is path we are going down now the I will say the following "The only real hunting should be done while butt-necked where you catch the quarry with your hands without any technology". No cheating with materials of any kind, especially involving projectiles. This will rule out the Neanderthal approach as well. And the dogs watch.

Why would you have to be butt- naked?
Sounds hazardous. What if you jumped a laid over tree trunk and teabagged a sharp limb on the way over?
Even if things go well you'll still be picking off cockerburs for a while which doesn't sound fun.

Makes the human like the prey, no protection, even for the tea. Allows the prey some advantages. Also, most humans cheat, possibly carrying Twinkies or something to use as booster fuel for a long chase. Cockerburrs are sort of a parasite load that again makes things more fair.
