What to do? filling out application....

good advice on here already!

if you have contact info for coworkers or other people from the out-of-business places, that's a possible reference. bosses are always better, but some reference is better than none.

also, make sure you let your references know you'll be using them and that you're currently looking so they should expect they might be called. and of course, always ask their permission before you list them. as a boss, I've occasionally been listed as a reference by some folks who REALLY should have asked first... because I'd have told them they'd probably be better off to ask someone else. besides if you contact your refferences, it means they won't be caught flat footed trying to remember who you are and trying to fetch up details... you'll be fresh in their minds.

you can also have someone call your references as a trial run to see how strong they are. great references are really a help in getting employed.

ditto on the spellcheck... I wish BYC had a spellchecker too, but your application needs one for sure.

on a related subject, how are your interview skills? if you need help with those, let me know and I'll post some ideas. I work on contract so I am looking for new jobs all the time, most contracts last between 3 and 18 months, so I interview a lot.
