What to do?!?! Rooster tried to fight my rooster!!

They were , But I brought him in the house and used a toothbrush and some baby shampoo that slowly brushed out all the caked and dried up blood out. He looks much better now. His eye is a little swollen. He was loving it when I would take a warm rag and rub it over his eye and his wattles. It was 30 degrees here today so the warm bath felt good to him.

I'm glad he let you clean him up good! His eye does look pretty swollen in the picture. It sounds like those two roosters were fighting pretty bad. I really hope your rooster doesn't get any infections in his comb or eye :/

I've never had to deal with wounds on a chicken yet, so I'm not sure what you should put on it. Maybe someone else in this thread knows. All I know to prevent infection is to keep it clean. I'm not sure if it can be used on chickens, but I know Bactine is to prevent infections. I would search and make sure it's okay for chickens before using though.

Hi Ms. ChickenMomma. So sorry about your rooster. My roosters just had their first fight, it is very heartbreaking. You can put Vetericyn on his eye. It disinfects and heals eye injories. you can get it at TSC. Just watch him over the next 2-3 days. Their combs tend to bleed a lot which makes it look worse than it is. Mine had his eye swollen shut for about 4 days, however It is healing fine. Good luck. Sounds like there is a rooster dinner in your future.

His eye was swollen shut this morning. I wiped it with a warm cloth and asked a lady down the road who is a vet tech and she told me to put a little saline in it to help him move it and if that doesn't help will need antibiotics!!
