It doesn’t hurt just to stick to vaseline, castor oil, or any vegetable oil. I use old fashioned crisco shortening in a can that I had for making pie crusts, and it stays on a long time. Lard works too.

It's not used on cats and dogs I don't think, but it used on foals when they get scours. With chickens, I worry they might eat, so I would not use it.I searched perhaps someone might find something different. Mostly it stated metals that were injested. Or if given orally (in large quantities) could be toxic. Seems dogs are sensitive (licking) to zinc oxide.
I know they don’t use it on dogs lol. Just what I read about injestion and hazzards. Dogs will lick...my chickens haven’t learned to do that...yet lol. Was just a thought being Rx’s and OTC restrictions in Canada. Availability makes for strange bedfellows...or something like that. No worriesIt's not used on cats and dogs I think, but it used on goals when the get scours. With chickens I worry they might eat, so I would not use it.![]()
lol, not so funny! I meant foal, not goals!ETA: you’re new tablet is funny!

I was terrified too when I did my first, but the chicken got better very shortly after the removal of the toe.I’m terrified at the thought of amputating a toe... what if I screw it up?!? Can it give her sepsis if I don’t remove it? I’m not sure how the pics will look... I did blu kote yesterday when the toe started to bleed a bit.
