What to do with this foot?

Ok Kris, just so I'm not mistaking something here - Tippy is the one you initially started this post for, her feet were in such bad shape correct?

All I can say is WOW!! Just WOW. The feet are looking soooo good! You have done a remarkable job, your dedication and care is overwhelming.

Puffy looks pretty good too! I am usually in the camp of just monitoring a hen that has a reproductive problem, once she starts to decline, then you know when her time has come and she's had enough.

Yes, sorry for the confusion. This post is about Tippie, this is the first pic I’ve added here of Puffy, I do have another thread on her, and thought I’d throw her pic in because a lot of you wonderful people who have been supporting and helping me with Tippie also made suggestions for her... and it’s sort of nice that Tippie has some company.

In starting the treatments for the scaly leg mites for the rest of the chickens, I found two more with reproductive issues (Puffy and B***hy) Puffy was doing really poorly at first, to the point I was ready to cull her or attempt to drain her belly. I’m going to be moving these three up to the barn by my trailer so I can keep a better eye on them. I just want to be very careful not to let their issues spread into my flocks!

I want to treat them all (in her coop) with the ivermectin to get ahead of this and knock down the lice and any other issues, but the owner is on the fence because it’s off label and there’s the egg withholding time. She has 8-10 dozen eggs already in the the fridge... I really, really don’t get it! But not my chickens... at least I’ve pretty much proven these three aren’t laying and treating them isn’t going to effect her production (also she only has one potential customer, who might sometimes buy, in the winter). Plus... if she lets me take them it will cut her feed bill by 3 non-productive hens!

Tippy is like a new bird (dare I say like a spring chicken?). I've been so just lately. I've missed a lot! I'm so impressed, Kris, and I'm glad your ankle is doing better.

Now I need to get caught up on all the threads I ignored while getting caught up at work.... It's amazing how much working for a living prevents you from actually living...

So, I have a sad update for you all, I lost Tippie today. The good news is several days ago I got her outside into a Chicken Tractor and on grass for the first time in her life. This morning she came out at 6 am, had a good dust bath, and was pecking and trying to scratch at the ground when we left for morning chores. By the time we returned with Hay around noon she was gone, she looks to have passed fairly peacefully, she was laying down.

Many people would say I wasted a lot of time and effort on her, for only buying her four more months of life. But she got to be a real chicken, developed a taste for mealworms, and was finally able to be outside. She died on grass and sitting in the shade, looking out on a beautiful sunny day. I would like to think she was a happy chicken for the extra time I managed to steal for her.

So sorry for your loss, but you did provide her with a good life, and made her a happy chicken until the end. That had to make it all worthwhile.
