What treat did your chickies get today?

Sadly, one of my ducks managed to break a leg. It would have been too stressful for her to repair and recover away from the flock, so I culled and butchered her. The chickens got the innards, the wildlife got the skin/wing/leg, and the dogs got the body. Circle of life, I suppose.

Today, I put out some cooked lentils mixed with quinoa - had some leftover from a recipe.  I got mobbed! They ate it like they've never been fed.  Also, some strawberries which was a hit as usual.  Then I had the problem with my painted toenails.  Seriously, can they not tell the difference between those and something edible?

Do you guys use the bales of alfalfa from tractor supply, or pellets?
How do you soak pellets if you use them?
Do you offer them a lot and let them eat what they want, permit it?

I regularly throw hay into my bird pens. They love eating it and I feel like I'm giving them something to do by pulling and scratching apart the bales.

Today they had summer squash, tomatoes, and leftover pizza. One of the laying pullets was hightailing it across the yard with a whole piece to herself...so funny.
