Can you give chickens dog treats with propylene glycol

According to Wiki, Forty-five percent of propylene glycol produced is used as chemical feedstock for the production of unsaturated polyester resins. so it appears in low doses it may be safe. but today's miracle is often tomorrows bane. No, you were right. Tomato plants contain the toxin solanine and shouldn't be fed to chickens deliberately. Red tomatoes are fine. Green tomatoes contain a little bit (you'd have to feed them exclusively for a long time to have an effect). But the actual plant contains the highest concentration.

Wow. I've never heard that before. I've always let the chickens pretty much demolish the garden at the end of season, they always went straight to the tomato plants so I never thought much about it.

I've never had any problems but I wont be giving them tomato leaves again! Not worth the risk.

Like almost all the do not feed items, the risk is low as long as you give in moderation... A tomato plant here or there isn't going to cause any harm, feeding your chickens tomato plants as a sole diet for a week most certainly might or feeding it to them regularly might...

If you actually Google up the toxicity of tomato leaves/stems you will see a lot of the claims are based on urban myth because it's related to the nightshade family... That isn't to say it doesn't contain some toxins (as most things do) but it's not nearly the demon toxin many make it out to be...

Wow, thanks! Yeah, they only get leaves here and there. It's definitely a treat, not a staple.

My Girls loooove chard, kale and beet greens...all of which we are growing in our garden. The burned or chewed up leaves I just throw in the run and they go nuts. Also we have tons of green grapes that they cant get enough of! I read in a few places that avocado is one of the big no no's for chicken treats?

My girls got baby oatmeal, baby food chicken and baby food carrots all mixed together. They get baby cereal almost every morning.
