What treat did your chickies get today?

Raw pumpkin and sunflower seeds, some hemp seed and chopped raisins for morning. Gotta say the green sheen on my black australorp is visible in the shade when she gets hemp seed.

Putting some watermelon in the fridge for this afternoon when it's hot.

i see your from az, probably the only place right now that needs to worry about heat for the chickens how else do you keep your hens cool?
i'm here in the desert too and have all sorts of heat coping items but i'm always interested in what others might of come up with.

This is my first summer with chickens so I am going to try some ideas I read about here.

Bought a kiddie pool to put on the east side of the house. I have 2 litre bottles of frozen water in my deep freezer to put in the pool. I am using some cinder blocks to hold up an old gate for shade in the run and I can put a couple in there with the lids loosened so water will drip onto brick below and chickens can stand there to cool their feet.

I plan on freezing some berries and herbs in blocks that i can put out.

Just provide as much water as possible and we are actively working on creating shade in our yard.

I've read no corn when it's hot so not giving any.

What do you do? I love hearing everyone's ideas too.

How often do you all give your flock treats? I give them some once in a while but I don't want it to become too much of their diet if it's not enough of the proper nutrients for them.

I give it daily they are eating machines I rotate so it's feed all day but no treats are given first thing or at night that's when they will gladly eat feed bc they are so hungry from sleeping or trying to fill up before bed

Thanks for the tip. I'll definitely keep it to mid day treats. I usually give them lettuce, apples, strawberries and other fruits and veggies. They seem to love them.
