What treat did your chickies get today?

Yesterday they only got a handful of raisins....today was home so I had oatmeal for breakfast...They got leftover oatmeal, grapes getting old, a few raisins, last of the lettuce...just a few small leaves. They really love tomatoes but have not had any lately. Going to Wallymart today do I'll have to get some little cherry tomatoes.

Do any of you give yours the stems from the asparagus...you know, the bottom parts that you break off. I've always composted them because they are so woody feeling. Didn't know if the ladies could break them down. Let me know. I"m planning asparagus for supper tonight. Have a great day!!

So at my school when my kids are finished eating lunch in the cafeteria, I take a zip bag and have the kids dump in the food they didn't eat. I give it to my girls when I get home! On a daily basis there's enough food thrown away for all the chickens in the world.

I do exact same thing at the school i work at as well! they waste so much food scraps! i ended up just taking a scrap bucket to work with me and then have them dump their leftover food in it when they are done. my chickens love it! my girls are disappointed on the weekends when i don't have nearly the scraps i do on weekdays!

I freeze the zip bags so I have enough for the weekends. And I've just gotten a bunch of extra for this holiday!!

You have given me a great idea! I'm going to approach our small restaurant down the road and see if they would like to donate scraps!
