What treat did your chickies get today?

My gals got some fall tomatoes from the garden.

banana peels,some grass ,other bits of greens scraps.

Left over salad makings plus meat/bone scraps from lamb chops. Also some leftover cottage cheese. They relish any kind of meat/bone I offer them to peck clean. My question: is it safe for the hens to have leftover popcorn? My concern is for their craws--if the sharp exploded shell pieces would cause harm or stop up their craws. Advice please? Thanks, G

I hate to ask such a stupid question, but do you have to crack BOSS, or can you give it to them just as it is bought?


I can get some at a farm co-op outside town, but they do not have cracked seed, only the whole seed.


The only sunflower seeds I'm familiar with are big seeds -- they look so big, I'm afraid they'll get stuck going down the chicken's neck.

Not a stupid question Barry, you can feed the BOSS whole, right from the bag. Give as a treat, not as a regular feed. Makes for shiny feathers too!!

I also feed a bit to my horses to give them a nice healthy coat.

they got a leftover cooked chicken breast, minced up very fine. They gobbled it up fast as lightening! I felt like I was making them into cannibals, but they loved it!

scrambled quail eggs, cherry tomatoes(post frost), very stale goldfish crackers, and some jambalya. Boosting their protein and cleaning the kitchen. They had a feast
