My chickens got a HUGE treat this morning. I picked about (5) five gallon buckets full of sweet corn from my garden. I didn't do too good of a job keeping the silks sprayed and protected from the moths, so about 95% of each ear of corn had either a small or a large worm in it. I don't really mind sharing my sweet corn with the worms....they only eat the top end of each ear. I saved all the worms, and when I finished getting the corn shucked, I took an extremely large amount of them out to their run. This was the first time I haven't seen the chickens running after what one of them had. There were so many to go around, they all had enough for themselves. I would assume they got their weekly ration of protein in about 10 minutes time.
I still have 4 more rows to pick in a couple weeks, so I'm actually hoping for the same thing. Next year, I'll work harder to reduce the amount of infestation. This year though....is just the circle of life!!!!
