Cantaloupe and oatmeal for breakfast then a romaine heart for afternoon snack. Some peas, fresh from the garden and some whole grain bread as a bedtime snack
My chickens got a HUGE treat this morning. I picked about (5) five gallon buckets full of sweet corn from my garden. I didn't do too good of a job keeping the silks sprayed and protected from the moths, so about 95% of each ear of corn had either a small or a large worm in it. I don't really mind sharing my sweet corn with the worms....they only eat the top end of each ear. I saved all the worms, and when I finished getting the corn shucked, I took an extremely large amount of them out to their run. This was the first time I haven't seen the chickens running after what one of them had. There were so many to go around, they all had enough for themselves. I would assume they got their weekly ration of protein in about 10 minutes time.
I still have 4 more rows to pick in a couple weeks, so I'm actually hoping for the same thing. Next year, I'll work harder to reduce the amount of infestation. This year though....is just the circle of life!!!!

I can't find mealworms at our walmart. What department are they in?
Yesterday we bought a fresh pineapple so today I decided to let the chicks try one of the trimmings from it. I wish I hadn't thrown the rest in the composter because they ate it! I didn't think they would. I also gave them some apple and oats.
I'm new to chickens but I'm wondering about all the "snacks" I was told that too many snacks and the wrong kind of snacks would mess up egg production.?????

They can if you feed to much junk. Healthy snacks are fine, and generally are kept at less than 10% of their diet. I don't feed scratch for example, and instead feed BOSS because it is higher in nutrients.
My girls got greek yogurt with molasses and flax seeds to celebrate the fact that my older hen laid a random egg today! Had to praise her somehow, so they had a yogurt party!
Oh and I also started a meal worm farm for them today, so more tasty treat's are coming!!
