You've gotta check everything over really good for the nasty bits (moldy/obviously spoiled beyond use), but the chickens dont care if their treats are slightly squashy, broken, cracked, or otherwise "imperfect". I figure the chickens get healthy treats, I dont have to spend a ton of $$ I dont have to give _chickens_ a healthy snack, the grocer gets paid- which means the farmer continues to get paid, and the veggis dont end up in the trash. Everyone wins!
I turned the compost pile this afternoon. They got all kinds of tasty goodies in there. The thing is filled with worms, grubs, ants, etc. I gave them the last of our spinach in their treat bowl and they were so full from their compost bin raid that they just walked away from the spinach. And my girls NEVER refuse spinach.
