I was out kayaking today and came across a nest! It was super cool. I can’t for the life of me figure out what it belongs to though! The eggs are long and narrow and about the size of a silkie egg, and speckled. The nest was right out in the water, what do you guys think it is??

I don't have a lot of experience with different types of waterfowl but those look a lot like coot eggs to me. Their nests often float on top of the water or among reeds, and the size sounds about right for a coot too. Coot chicks are pretty funny looking little buggers when they hatch, they have black down with some really bright orange/yellow down around the head/neck, with the very top of the head bald, and very large feet. The adults are black with a white beak. :)
