What was this for? What kind of animal?

Ams3651....we did ask neighbors, that is how I found out he fed the bears. The neighbor was soooo mad about that! The bears seem to live in the woods on the opposite side of that neighbors land and never crossed over till they started feeding them here. That neighbor has some chickens too, so he really didn't want the bears crossing over and deciding to try for a free chicken dinner! I haven't seen the bears here in about 4 months, so I think they know they're no longer getting a free meal in our yard.
We didn't notice the structures at first. When we were looking at the property we stuck to the logging trails. We didn't find it till after we bought the place, and the old owners retired to AZ. I don't know how to contact them.

Imp...the owners were retired with no kids. Everybody around has a good chunk of woods, so I can't see kids coming over by somebody else's house to build. The closest house with kids is about 9 acres away. It's pretty sturdy and heavy, I don't think kids could have built it. Also, when the previous owners moved they left a stack of wood the same sizes by the woodpile. While I know wood is wood and can't get too much different....the extra boards are weathered about the same as the ones on these structures.

I'll have to rake out the leaves inside and get a better look at the ground when it dries up a bit out there. I was inside it at one point, and didn't notice any markers of any kind.

i am wondering why you would use poultry netting on a bear trap? could a bear not get out of that if stupid raccons get in through it? maybe they were trapping teddy bears?

Maybe....you'd have to lift the dogs over the top to get them in. Then get in yourself and lift them back over to get them out.

Poultry netting to keep something small in or out.

No protected cover so a flying creature is out, cept maybe a turkey that needs a runway.

Sides can be lifted, so it is not set in the ground, mobile?

Walls too high to be a game bird shooting blind, and if it is any type of blind why the poultry netting, to hold camo (branches etc), nah theres too much netting and evidence of old brush would likely be seen. Also it's in the woods, so birds are out, deer/turkey blind...why so big?...nah

Compost pile....evidence would be easily seen...nah

Protecting something planted, it's awfully tall, thus creating alot of added shade; I kinda like the PP (previous post) about protecting mushrooms.

Protecting a burial, again agreed with PP...it's not real attractive.

Put rotten kids in, I have three but they were never that rotten, though I have been exposed to some that could use a few hours in the pen....lol

Metal detector..what would you be looking for..............clues!

Can two people move it? are any nails etc rusted, like it's been there forever?

What does the person that solves the mystery win??????
LOL

I'll throw out a wild guess. I've known of people who cage deer and let them out so "hunters" can shoot them as they come out. A friend of mine was suckered into one of these hunts outside Corpus Christi. Boy, was he embarrassed and kind of mad. I understand pheasant are sometimes kept caged, then released when the "hunters" are in position. Could it be something like this? With the chicken wire, I'd think bird, maybe pheasant, turkey, quail, grouse? I don't think anyone would go to that much trouble for rabbit. You would need some type of top to keep them in, but I said it was a wild guess.
