What was this for? What kind of animal?

I wonder, if the owners were feeding bear, why would they want to trap something to hunt it later? Sounds odd, feed the bears out of kindness, and have some kind of animal inside a pen in order to hunt it? Weird. Why not just shoot the bear as it's eating? Something sounds off there

Jscnlc: I think it would take at least 3 men to move it, maybe 4. The woods aren't clear enough to move it very far though...you'd hit a tree fairly soon!

Ridgerunner....I live down the road from Fantasy Whitetails which is a huge 600 acre controlled hunt thing, I know exactly what you mean! Everything the neighbors said about them is that they were very quiet and kept to themselves. Nobody mentioned any hunting....but of course they just might not have noticed.

Here is my guess. On the second picture there looks to be two sliders boards as if someone pulled it around with something? Maybe they relocated it around the woods for some reason. But what would they want to relocate? What puzzles me the most is why is there no roof of any kind on it? This is a tricky mystery yet to be solved!! Ima subsribing to this un!

OK, since the "viewing bench is located so close, I can tell you right off, that cannot be a bear "bait".
DH and I bait on the predator control program in Alaska.
In states where that is legal, it is highly controled and there are rules on how to set it up.
Never mind the fact that you would never sit at ground level, as its not safe, and a bear would never come in if a human was sitting right there.
And the fact that a bear would tear that structure apart.

Going out on a limb here, but is it possible that they built that to protect a grave? Seeing that it has a bench nearby.......

I think you need to call the old owners in AZ. Maybe you can find them using the "White Pages" on the internet. It is amazing what you can find out about people when you do a search. You may get their new address and phone number right away. If not, maybe their realtor has a forwarding address.

Okay, maybe I'm just paranoid or something. Just the fact that it appears a bench was built nearby, and the weird construction, it just kind of gives me the willies--like it was for baiting or fighting or something. I would personally tear it apart and use the wood for some other well built structure.

i see that their is a gap or miss spacing in the boards on the side, is their wire their, if not one could put in a sliding door or a hinged up door and that could be used as a trap door to catch hogs just a thought
