Hmmm....compost bin sounds feasible, but it would take 3 maybe 4 grown men to lift and move it. There isn't a step on the side, but the bottom rails are longer on 1 side. Somebody mentioned that they might be like that to lift and drag it. That makes sense. They also left bags of mulch and garden fertilizers so I don't think they were into composting for the gardens. There is a much smaller compost bin made of concrete blocks over by the gardens.
Cock fighting...I just don't see them being cruel to anything. He thought he was doing a service by feeding the bears and other wildlife. Kept telling me how cute the groundhog under the woodpile is. Showed me pictures of every animal he ever seen in the yard. I guess you never know about people though!
Wildlife feeder....this makes sense except for the fact that there is a board across the top and it's at least 8 foot wide. Also, it looks like on 3 sides he used 5' poultry netting and it's only 4' high. the rest is just sort of folded over the top. So nothing could reach in on those sides. We do have lots of wild turkeys and deer in the area.
They did not have livestock of any kind. There's a big yard but she was into some fancy flowers not animals! They look like the kind you get in a florist. I know she paid a ton for them. They are beautiful. Oh...and she was giving me all these tips on how to keep the deer from eating them. (apparently red pepper works)
The previous owners last name is very common so I don't know how much luck I'll have with phone books and such, but I will try to look them up in AZ. I may have a forwarding address in my closing papers somewhere, I'll have to go through them.
Kman...you are correct, the boards are very uneven but the poultry netting is on every side. There are large gaps in the boards on 3 sides. It's sturdy as could be, so I'm thinking of fixing it up as another coop. Maybe just for quarantine since it's far enough away from the main coop.
I was going to go out and rake it out yesterday but it rained all day and now its snowing!
I swear loco...if I find a body I'm shipping it to you!!!!!

The chicken wire is rusty, so I would cut that off and replace it with welded wire. Then box in one end for a coop that could be closed at night. Probably cover the top with 1 piece of plywood topped with the extra shingles the shed guy left and more welded wire for the other half. The largest space between the boards on the one side would be replaced with a door.
My current quarantine is a dog crate in the tool shed. DH isn't overly fond of that set-up!
Okay, I'm done being paranoid. If they are into gardening, and have deer, then it is probably an area to raise plants and keep the dang deer out of them! I have an area like that where I store potted plants, and my vegetable garden is fenced off.
Hmmmm well I'll have to go with the acclimating pen. Since there's no door. You could easily put some quail or pheasants in there for a short time, throw some netting over the top. Sit on your tree bench and watch them. Then prop open one side so they can get out?
