Hi! This is my first BYC post but I'm an avid chicken lover and have been raising them for years. I found this on one of my roosters the other day and I am mind blown. He's completely fine other than me having to clean out puss every day. He blinks behind the lump and I can still see some outline of the actual eye. The closest thing I can guess is he got attacked by another rooster and they somehow pecked him in the eye and this happened? But I really don't have any idea. He has no symptoms of illness and the other eye is totally fine. If anyone has any idea what's going on please help! I'm hoping he'll be alright in the long run but if there's anything I should be doing please let me know.

I would only say be careful with any advice about cleaning it or adding eye drops as it may push the infection deeper. When you are removing the solid every day, does it seem like there is an internal infection that is very painful to him, perhaps causing him to wince very strongly?

I had a eye problem that cleared up only with a metronizadole and cefaloforin antibiotic, basically it is a special medicine that targets protozoal infections. In my chicken, he had an eye infection and was on four diffent antibiotics for months and nothing worked. He lost his eye and finally I gave him the antiprotozoal and it cleared in days.

There was some deeper infection inside his face that was extremely painful for him, and finally with medication it went away but his eye couldnt be saved from months of being swollen.

Maybe there are drops that can help with antibiotic action against what you have, but just be aware if nothing responds it may require a certain antiprotoal medicine. Depending where you live, only a vet can give it to you probably but you can also look around for it. Unfortunately im not in the usa and dont know the laws there.
