Just wondering for those of us in the drought infested areas...what do you think it's gonna take to break the spell of this drought, heat parched, part of the world? While talking with a man at the gas station, he made the comment..."When it does break...it's gonna be a heck of a storm". I fear it will take something of that nature to give us the relief we so long for. Not to wish bad things on our coastal area people...isn't this suppose to be hurricane season? I fear that's what it will take to break this drought. Thoughts?

I agree.....its gonna take something short of a maricle. (sp)? It hot and dry here in Indiana as well. Ohhh, my poor water bill. With 6 pens, each with 2 watering stations...cleaned several times a day....whew....come on cooler days and rain!!

It's a bit scary...
We're in a drought --- with 10 days (and counting) of temps breaking 100 degrees, and no rain in sight. Every afternoon has had thunderstorms on the horizon, but the rain in nonexistant.
We usually get our drenching summer rains from hurricanes / tropical storms coming in from the coast. I wouldn't wish a 'weather event' on anyone. I'll just keep running sprinklers on essential stuff and hope we get a break soon..
The blanking coons stripped the 2 latest sweet corn patches as they came ready and have taken to eating cukes off the vine.

I started a post called Praise the lord...Rain. Well, 10 minutes after I posted that the rain stopped!!! I was outside this morning watering trees!!!! Now that is crazy. I have young trees on my woods line dying from the drought. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let it rain.

We are also in Severe drought here. I am in SouthEastern KY. Come on Rain!!! I don't want SEVERE weather. But I like a good thunderstorm. Especially at night.

Keep an eye on the tropics. There are changes brewing.....

Last time we had a drought like this, I think it was 04' We got some pretty wicked tropical storms that brought us out of it. Only problem is, the ground can only absorb 3 inches of water in a days time. Some of those storms drop that much in an hour!!

We had a drenching thunderstorm both Friday and Saturday nights. My husband pointed out that the ground was so dry that it soaked the water right up. There wasn't a puddle anywhere after the storms.
The cool rain was a welcome relief from the heat. My oldest daughter said they all ran out of the store where she works and danced around in the rain.

Our severe drought here in Minnesota just broke... They're shoveling hail 3 inches deep- some as big as golf balls. Lots of people lost trees, some outbuildings destroyed and at least one house. Pretty typical for Minnesota summer (I so want to move!)

We lost 14 tomato cages and all our corn blew over, but the 4 inches of rain was nice!
It's the first rain we've had since early June.

We're under extreme drought here also.

I use soaker hoses (which conserves water as opposed to sprinklers or watering with a hose by hand) to water the flower beds and to prep our main chicken yard when we get ready to install sections of the cattle panel frames and our water bill is almost as high as our electric bill right now. ( water bill: $45/ electric: $65) We have a small air conditioner that is only run at night in the bedroom, so our electric bill isn't too bad.

I've been doing rain dances and I'm sure the neighbors are curious about my antics but I don't care!

We are in the 100's again this week with no break until the weekend when we'll hit 98/99. What a break...
