Whats on my fern???

Hope this is where this goes! But I noticed this black stuff on my fern. Its not all over, just on a few. Kinda like black goop. Other than it needing a really good water it is doing well for a $7.00 grocery store plant

No its not the spores. I will have to take a better picture tomorrow. This is on the top of some leaves and it kind of oily goopy like and black.

It could be scales. They are very invasive, hard to get rid of insects. I've had to toss a huge fern and several spider plants because of scales.

A little bit of dishsoap with water to mist on the leaves could be very beneficial for this type of problem...

Soapy water isn't effective on scales. They have a hard shell. Oil will work, but it's messy and a pain to do.

I will not toss this fern. I am going to cut a sample of it and take it to the nursery to see what they suggest! Its only on the backside. I have not been turning it like I should. I did move it today
