How's your Barnevelder? I read the breed reviews on them and they are a very mixed bag. Some people say they are skittish, others friendly. Lots of people said they aren't great layers. I just want to know the possibilities.Last year I would've said a Delaware was on top of my list, but now it's a Houdan (because I got a Crevecouer last year and I find her amusing). So I'll time my next batch of chicks from the feed store around the availability of Houdan chicks.
Would be nice to get that Delaware too, but I tend to focus on getting that one breed that I really want and then just pick from whatever else is available to fill out the group. Last year I wanted (and got) a Barnevelder, they happened to have Crevecouers too so that's how I ended up with one.
I've gotten a Marans with each of the last 3 batches so I wouldn't say no to another Marans, and down to 1 EE so another EE would be nice for blue or green eggs. Otherwise my flock is a mix of breeds and colors - some birds are big, some are smaller standards, some have beards or muffs or feathered feet. I prioritize eye candy over production, as I don't actually like eating that many eggs.
