What's out there?! Scary noises curious & nervous

OK this is more curiosity because before when I've posted on the predator site it was because of the loss. So I'm glad this isn't on such a gram note but this morning on the opposite side of the property from the chicken coop I heard the most frightening noise. Very much sounded like a young girl getting killed. But I could tell shortly after obviously an animal. I've always lived in the rural areas and used to having to worry about coyotes foxes raccoons in the occasional bobcat. I've heard the coyotes howl at my old property before but this was a sound unlike no other. But I have moved to a 17 1/2 acre property surrounded by conservation area.
So just curious and the coop is prepared for predators but what screams such a spine wrenching scream at 4 AM ?!

I'm in Massachusetts and we have Fisher Cats. Their sounds range from a whinning baby to the blood curdling screams of a human child being murdered. It's very frightening especially when it's right under your bedroom window. It's happened more than once and very disturbing. The first time I was afraid to look at my front yard in the morning.

Sounds like a bobcat.

If I am to believe Google, the Fisher Cat does not range in the Virginia area.

This is the range of a fisher cat.

I checked the Virginia DNR site and they do report having Fishers in West Virginia and Virginia. I don't want to challenge those who believe it is a bobcat, however New England bobcats sound like big jungle cats. Totally different from the Fishers.

I was going to say the same thing. They sound like someone being murdered in the woods lol

Screech Owls can scream out

Screech owls have a descending trill, not a scream. Barn owls screech.

My guess would be a red fox, but only during the breeding season. A recording would be great!

my pet rabbit when I was a kid screamed liked a human when I had him out on a leash and the dog got frisky wanting to play with him. It's a sound you don't forget.

There is not enough information to even guess on this beyond it being a vertebrate or possibly a constipated alien.
