I was 10. I vividly remember it. I think I got a t-shirt that read "I survived the Texas Heat Wave".

We spent that sumner camping on the Neches River. (I spent my 11'th birthday fishing.) Maybe that's why I don't remember the heat, it was always cooler down there on the river.

Nobody on the west coast imagines that Texas is less than 90° year round!

I know it's not true, but that's the stereotype.

We do get a whiff of winter. -not too much, though. Once in a great while (years) we get temps down to 6 or 7 degrees F. That winter it was around -1. You'd have thought the apocalypse was nigh.

I was amazed how many houses didn't have frost free outside faucets.
