I've seen this on the Gulf down where Sarasota and Bradenton are. I was a teen playing on the piers all hours of the night. Some nights a 13 year old kid was out playing and watching the sparkles in the water all by his self a 3am. No worries back in the 50's.

I've not seen it as an adult ever. It's gone.

I was never swimming alone at night
There would be other teens / kids from the campground with me
And sometimes the adults would be having a bonfire on the beach and / or floundering
We camped there for about 20 years with some of the same people
It was a mobile home park and campground on the beach
