A woman has died on the Victoria-New South Wales border while south-eastern parts have recorded 146 kilometres per hour winds during the severe weather system.

Authorities in Tasmania are pleading with the public to stay up to date with weather warnings, with a lull on Saturday to be followed by worsening conditions later in the day and overnight.

Tasmania's hammering from wild weather is continuing, with thousands of people without electricity and a flood evacuation underway.

The prolonged extreme weather event affecting Tasmania has left around 30,000 people without power overnight, with residents in a one community being told they should prepare to leave due to a flood risk.
