Freezing rain today made everything slippery, the walk to the barn this afternoon was eggciting! And the back deck had about a cm (1/2”) of ice on it. Skating on the back deck - how fun (not!).

It’s 0C and freezing drizzle still.

Did I mention I hate winter?

I am taking a book from emmadonovan and counting the days until hell is not ‘freezing over’!

09 Dec 2024 until our unofficial start to summer May 2 4 weekend (which is on 19 May 2025 next year)

161 days and counting!

Yup, snow and freezing rain, and frost at least until the end May. We never plant anything that needs protection from frost until after May 2 4 weekend. Realistically we really only get (usually) really hot summer weather from about July first to the first week of August - about 5 weeks.

That’s not to say it isn’t nice in June and Aug. and sometimes even September. But those months it is usually shorter daylight hrs which makes the warmth less so.

It’s all about the daylight hours up here! Soon it will be the winter solstice and that will be the day with the least amount of daylight hours. The day will have the longest amount of darkness.
