What's the temperature where you are???

October 1st. This is the hardest month.

I know what October should be. Fresh, crisp air that sweeps in across 400 miles of the open Pacific. The slightest of chills that makes you reach for your lightest of sweaters. The hint of magical things to come: birthdays, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years. Beautiful sparkling lights, decorations inside and out, streets and people aglow, celebration of the birth of Our Savior. And all of it starts with October!

But not here. Here, October means boiling in triple digit temps just as we have been for months and months.

An area of southern Queensland larger than Tasmania is under a total fire ban that will be extended from central Queensland to the Gold Coast from Thursday.

During what is expected to be at least a five-day ban across 23 local government areas (LGA), all open fires will be prohibited and all fire permits issued in those areas have been suspended.
