What's wrong with their feathers?

Hi, its taken me over a week to plough through this entire thread but I finally made it. This is absolutely fascinating and I've learnt something of chicken genetics too which is a bonus.

I think they are amazingly stunning birds and I hope one day they make it to the UK and someone creates a bantam version (as I don't have enough land for large fowl).
hmm.png

How are the adults doing now? Any more unexpected deaths? Or are all those mature birds fine now?
It would be interesting to find out what they died of, has anyone had a post mortem done on the birds that dropped down for no apparent reason?
Anyway, I wish everyone the best of luck with their birds and/or projects and will be following this thread avidly. Its so exciting that so many people are sharing their dedication in making this a breed and saving it from its problems to keep it alive.

I'm working on bantams as well as several colors of LF. Hopefully we'll get them to your area someday!

Congrats on the chickies! How are they doing? Can't help any on hatch rates or colors as my 1st are only about half way thru incubating. I have 7 eggs in there and 6 looked good a couple days ago. These were not shipped eggs. Can you tell if yours are fluffies?

Wanted to give you all an update on my eggs -

Out of the 22 that made it into the incubator, 6 healthy babies hatched. They are two days old now and all seem very healthy and spunky

They are adorable little fluffs!

I "eggtopsied" the other 16 eggs. 14 showed no development, and 2 were fully formed but hadn't pipped the inner membrane. The odd thing is that the 6 that hatched all have white down (splash), but the two that didn't make it had blue down coloring.

Has anyone else ever had color specific hatches with these eggs? It is probably just a fluke, but I thought it was pretty interesting.
Also, what are your hatch rates like out of your birds at home? I had some other eggs in the bator with these and had a nearly perfect hatch from them, but they were eggs from my own birds so they didn't have to endure shipping.

I'm getting my hatcher ready right now and am moving the eggs into lockdown tomorrow morning. Please cross fingers and toes for me. I will be happy if anything hatches but am really hoping for some blue silkied roos...

Thinking happy hatching thoughts for you!

Well, somehow I managed to live through the past 19 days!!

I locked down 7 from NicoleRM's batch last night...all appeared to be moving and wiggling so I'm hopeful!! Locked down 6 from Alicefelldown's B line this morning (1 was questionable, but I put it in anyways!) and 1 from the A line...so that's 13 wigglers and 1 questionable...which I think is pretty good!!

I'm excited to see what hatches

...hopefully I can get something done over the next three days besides standing over the bators!!

I was doing pretty good until I layed out my breeding plan for them for the next 3 years. Now I am NERVOUS!

I will be out of town after tomorrow night but have someone experienced to watch the bator for me. I'm really hoping something pips and hatches before I have to go!
