What's wrong with their feathers?

I'm so glad I found this thread. I have a pullet with similar plumage and we were worried something was wrong. We're still watching "Scratch" to make sure she stays warm enough even though she has been moved out of the brooder. Her sister "Chipmunk" is pictured to show the difference.

now for the interesting question - where did she come from? People do sell off/place extra splits as EE.

We got her as an Ameracuna. We were just looking for variety and not show quality. The plumage was a curiosity that began our search as to what we actually had. She came from a local teenager who has started a small business selling eggs and ordering chicks from a local hatchery in the spring. He gets a few different breeds to satisfy the minimum order of the hatchery and then re-sells individually to backyarders. He's a great young man and is knowledgeable about care and breeds. He has a few show birds as well. He has a real nice set up. We were more interested in supporting a local small business and getting a variety of healthy, happy birds than purebreds. She was a happy surprise!

I have two Splash Ameraucanas that are 18 weeks old.  Their feathers are so strange, almost like fluffy silkie hair, not feathers.  I don't know what you would call this.  It's not like a frizzle.  Has anyone else seen this on Ameraucanas? 


Also I've thought the bigger one was a rooster, because it's had a red comb very early,  but at 18 weeks it has never started crowing and likes to sit in the nest boxes alot.  It really doesn't have any other characteristics of my Ameraucana rooster, so I'm starting to think maybe it is a hen after all.  What do you think? 


I feel stupid for asking, but I'm fairly new.  My other Ameraucanas are EE's from the hatchery.   These two I hatched from shipped eggs and I've never seen feathers like this before.

I think they look like their growing people hair. They want to be like you. Lol. It's the first time I've seen Ameracunas sith hair like that. Special.
