What's your Southern Sign?

Eggcetra...your stewed okra recepie is close to mine. Nothin' like a big pan of stewed okra to eat with your porkchops!

Anyone who has watched Paula Deen should know that we really do eat that stuff down here. A little known fact is that we keep a Roto-rooter nearby in every household to clear our arteries every now and then.

I was wanting to add that you can cook green beans the same way. Just substitute them for the okra and you're in business. Oh, and again, use FRESH. Canned is.....ok I guess BUT only if you can't get fresh beans.

I don't measure anything either. That's the way grandma taught me to cook.

YAY! Everyone up here tells me I have an "accent" and my friends and mother berate me for not measuring when I cook...I knew it was my southern genes! (Dad is from TX, Grandma from AR...etc) So happy...I've found my niche!

Anybody else like nice hot cornbread crumbled in their buttermilk? Or drink sweetened and condensed milk straight up?

I'm a catfish married to a boiled peanut. Boiled peanuts are a S.C. thing and every time we go home DH has to go to Wally World to get some, as they have a vendor there that makes the best that we have ever eaten. DH is also a nut.

This thread morphed into a great southern food thread!! I loooovvvvveee fried okra, grits, crawdads, and especially, hot boiled peanuts!! I boil them sometimes and take them to work and the yankee computer guy nearly barfs and wont even try them!! hilarious!!

I remember seeing them for sale on the side of the road a lot here as a kid, but not too often anymore. I went to Florida about two years ago, and we stopped in at a gas station that had them in three different flavors back by the hotdogs and sodas. That was the first time I ever tried them and loved them!
