I know what you mean. When I sell day old chicks, they will call and ask what sexes they are, even though the ad says "unsexed". Hard to believe people are really that dense.

I never ever sell pairs. Ever. 99% of all people I sell to want pullets. I don't blame them one bit. If Im wanting to sell some birds, Ill put pullets for sale, and give away roosters. Its no different than going to McDonalds and asking for a cheeseburger. They say, no you have to buy fries, too. I dont want fries, I just want a cheeseburger. You have to buy fries, too, or else no cheeseburger for you.

Id move on fast.

Its not the buyers problem that I have too many roos. Its mine. I have no problem giving them away. Rarely, I have someone buy some pullets who also asks if I have any roos, but thats very rare.

I understand that. If i see two in a cage I pretty much know its a pair, but when there are 15-20 shoved in a cage thats what i'm talking about. And isn't the point to make a sell?

In this case the first purchaser gets to pick the male and female they prefer, then 2nd purchaser gets 2nd choice, etc. Most folks do not have enough cages to separate all their pairs. If the sign says pairs only, then don't ask to purchase pullets or hens without a male. If you want the girl sufficiently, you will purchase the pair. If you don't, someone else will.

A pushy seller is someone who hunts you down and hounds you to purchase his/her birds. Not changing the terms originally stated is not being pushy.

I agree. I made the decision to breed chickens so I have to deal with extras. The way I deal with it is by eating them or giving them away. Instead of forcing people to buy pairs my roosters are dinner or I will give them away for free. I will probably end up eating most of my boys. If someone wants them and says they will be a studmuffin and not dinner, that's fine, they can have them. But if they are just going to be eaten I would rather save the birds the stress of moving and readjusting and just kill them here at home. One minute they are screwing around, looking for bugs and doing top secret chicken things and the next they are gone. That wouldn't be so bad, right?

I wouldn't be too happy if someone refused to sell me hens because I wouldn't take a rooster. Even those of us who can have roosters don't necessarily want fifteen of them running around the place, so really the only thing I would do with them is eat them. Just eat them yourself! Save the birds the stress. Anyways, just IMHO. Nothing at all wrong with selling pairs, or trios, In fact I just sold a trio that I would not have sold separately. They were my first birds and I wanted them to go to a new home together.
