Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread

Pics
Hi VC, The wheaten should have the black on the wing feathers and the Blue wheaten should have Blue where the wheaten is Black. The tail on wheaten for the main is black with the coverts wheaten. The Blue wheaten main tail is Blue with the covert wheaten.

I think you remember before that I stated not to use the wheaten from the blue wheaten back into the pure wheaten as it will introduce inferior type and color into the regular wheaten causing you to loose a lot of time trying to upgrade.

These comments are only for those of us breeding for type and color. Don

Thanks Don,
I thought I remembered that there should be some black in the primaries of wheaten hens, at least on Ameraucanas, so I was confused when the discussion on this thread mentioned there should be no black, and then I saw the proposed standard that simply says "wheat color".

I was wondering if anyone could post some pictures of their adult Wheaten Marans, just for the fun of it. I need some chicken eye candy.

Your wish, my command.

Doesn't make any sense if the blues can have the darker wing colors in blue, but the wheatens can't have it in black? Looks like more wording went into the blue wheatens when it came to wing color? More work needed, and I would sure like to know who has what as far as this goes. Think they need to re-phrase the hackle color too, as if you are trying for a 3 color wheaten effect, the hackles look more dark copper or reddish to me than wheat colored. And yes, I know about red/winter wheat, but many don't!

I just think that the wheatens are the most beautiful things. Thank you, Illia! And don't even begin to show me wheaten/blue wheaten roosters of ANY breed... It hurts too much!

Personally I think their written standard for Wheaten hen wings is rather ridiculous. One should at least elaborate into primaries, secondaries, etc. And a Wheaten of any breed should naturally have black in the primaries.
