Wheaten Marans/BLR Wyandottes Incubating Blog

JD,

Brooder set up and nothing to look at with pics that is any different from the first pages on this thread. I will see if I can get a pic of the brooder for ya.

JD,

The home rigged brooder. As you can see, my son can't wait to see it full of little chicks. He donated his pool as a temporary home for the chicks.

Good pictures and your little boy is so cute. I see wooden legs under that box. Is there anyway you can make kinda like a sawhorse and hang the lamp from that or use two chairs with a board across them. I'd be afraid of the box also. If you have a heat lamp in there they sure can get hot. A long board with a hanging hook maybe.

The lamp is free hanging in there and not near the cardboard. The sides have not gotten hotter then 99 degrees or so. I will continue to moniter.

You might want to read some of the posts on here where people have had barns burned down from heat lamps being knocked over. Im certainly not trying to tell you what to do, but accidents do happen, and you would hate to regret that set up.

Thanks Derrick,
The smoking deal for $240. is over but it is still the best deal for all the features it has. I should have bought it months ago!

This is so odd, when I saw your post drom I check jmt distributors where I got mine from for the $240 and they had it priced at $279 and now at 12:03am it is at $259. Go figure....looks like they change the price at midnight

. Anyway I'm am very pleased with mine and on lockdown....hopefully by wednesday I see some baby bantys.

Yes, I noticed that on the JMT site too. Well, I'm glad it is back down some because I think this is the one I should get. Everyone seems very happy with it.

I agree with halo .... Really, very very dangerous like that.

Could you explain it to me, I don't understand your set up? The chicks are going to be on the floor of the pool (with paper towels for footing) correct? What is the cardboard box for? Is it just to hold the heat lamp?

Check it after midnight again, I bet it will change again. I gone back and forth to that site when it was $240 and noticed that they would let expired and the next day they would extend that price again. They seem to fluxuate at lot, probably depending on their sales during the price markdown. I have been very pleased with mine. The directions that came with it were a little confusing but I went to the rcom site at http://www.r-com.co.kr/
and
they have very good videos there to help you out. Here is my set up with the water for the humidity. And it has lasted throughout the incubation and pipping. The cup lid has a small hole in the middle for a straw.

I don't think the cardboard box is a good idea either......especially in your house. You are also going to be surprised how soon those chicks are hopping out of the wading pool!!
