Wheaten Marans/BLR Wyandottes Incubating Blog

I was hoping for some BLR wyandottes but I got the silver laced rooster and I learned I needed the Golden laced rooster to get Blue Laced Reds. I have pullets both GLW and SLW. I have not yet attempted incubation but I am very much wanting to do it. So I will be watching your blog with great interest. I am in FLorida so, as you indicated, you find you get more chickens than you need - please let me know.

Thanks Derrick,
The smoking deal for $240. is over but it is still the best deal for all the features it has. I should have bought it months ago!

Drom,

I'm happy with it so far. I will see when I get home if the change of humidity is stable.

Caroline,

I answered your PM. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I got home and the temp was at 99.5. The humidity was at 51%. It was set at 52%. My brother in law stated that it had been at 51-52% all day. Not bad. I increased it to 58% as recommended by the breeder for day 19. I was mistaken when I said I was going to increase to 56% earlier. I did put a little prime on the pump and the humidity increased to 63% but that was my fault. I will leave it alone and see what it levels out to. So far so good....

This is so odd, when I saw your post drom I check jmt distributors where I got mine from for the $240 and they had it priced at $279 and now at 12:03am it is at $259. Go figure....looks like they change the price at midnight

. Anyway I'm am very pleased with mine and on lockdown....hopefully by wednesday I see some baby bantys. This will be the first for me on bantys. Can't wait till this spring and try some more Silkies in it. I've got 3wk old in the house now that I did in the little giant that I added fan and home made turner w/egg carton on a dowel and did pretty good with it but still was a pain. Good Luck on your hatch Derrick

I checked the temp and humidity this am prior to work and it was 99.5F and 57% humidity. It was set at 58%. Not bad. I am going to go home and increase the humidity again. I think he said I should now increase to 61% and tomorrow a little more. So far the incubator is doing what I ask it to as far as humidity.

I now need to hurry and get the brooder put together.... I hope I will have some pics to follow....

Derrick, I made a mistake in my last post on wednesday being my due date, it suppose to be tomorrow and I just notice I already have a pip! Are your due tomorrow also. Ooooh I can't wait>

JD,

The eggs were set with tomorrow being day 21. I put them in on a Friday Jan 22 after work at about 6pm or so. If that is day zero then tomorrow is day 21 at 6pm or so.......

I put the incubator on 62% humidity today and it has been holding at 61%-62%. It tends to run about 1% low most of the time so I put it on 62%. I wanted it to stay on 61%. I will up it some more tomorrow on hatch day...

Hi Derrick, That is great, we're hatching together! Have you any pips yet? Maybe tonight. Check out my pic on my other post, My first pips in Suro20. Good luck again and keep posting. Any pics?
