When A Chicken Dies

Took a deceased cat to the vet last summer. I had a couple options. Group cremation with the ashes scattered in an orchard or individual cremation with the ashes returned. I do the group. Had another die at home several years ago. Did the burial thing in the backyard. I still sometimes feel creepy mowing over Okie. All the rest were put down at the vets and did the group thing.

Imp-That's what I believe, and don't try to dissuade me.

Depends on the day of the week. Close to trash day it will go into an empty feed sack and put out with the trash, if the weather is nice bird will go to the burn pile and incinerated, if none of the above is appropriate bird is tossed into the woods for the vermin. Vermin do not bother my birds thanks to my dogs and double hot wired coop. Thankfully we don't have birds pass very often....

We have 2 horses, a dog, a cat and oldest daughters pet duck buried on our property.

PLEASE HELP.....I have a Question....I bought 10 chickens (almost a year old) and one never did look good once I got them in the coop. I quarantined it and it never got any better. I used an antibiotic in the water just in case and it continued to go downhill. Yesterday was the first time in over a week that it's eyes would open. (they were not swollen) she just didn't want to open them. So I thought she was getting better. This morning, I went out to check on her, and her waddle and comb had turned dark then 2 hours later she was dead.

The rest of the chickens seem to be fine. So my question is....how long before I can use the crate that I had quarantined her in?

I know my grandkids are going to want another one. (I'll probably get 2 just so they have each other and hope they will integrate better with the rest of the flock) I will need to keep them quarantined before putting them with the others. That is why I need to know if there is a time period between the time of using the crate for the sick chicken and using it for the new chickens.
I hope someone could answer this quickly as my grandkids will be coming over today.
Thank you in advance for any help.

Time doesn't matter. Some germs die off in an hour; others can persist for months, even longer. Clean and disinfect your crate with a three-step process to ensure it's safe for re-use.

First remove any visible dirt, feces and other bio material. Wash the crate inside and out with very warm or hot water and a mild detergent. Then douse with a 10% bleach-90% water solution - a spray bottle works just fine. Let the crate sit for at least 20 minutes, rinse and allow to air dry. Don't forget to clean & disinfect the crate door.

This protocol is veterinarian-recommended and has been used for years in animal rescue.

Good luck!
