When A Chicken Dies

My daughters pet chicken that died was cremated by the pet crematory through my work and her ashes are in her room on a shelf. The dozens others that have been murdered by a stupid dog got double-bagged and thrown away.

The small chicks that didnt make it for whatever cause, same thing.

One of my 8 week old ducklings died just a few hours ago,I brought her to the lake in back of my house went on the ice to the middle of the lake and covered her body with mounds of snow so when it melts she will go in the water.

Get very depressed because PET loss is torture. My chickens have always been named pets and when they die even of old age it's horrible. I always bury them.

Dono if this was already mentioned, but our local wildlife refuge stopped accepting donated chickens (alive or dead) to feed their birds-of-prey and other animals because of worry of not knowing if the animals were 100% free of diseases etc.

If from disease they are burned in the firepit. Had a few special pet chickens that died, natural causes, and made a special fire, asked for some blessings for them and covered them with tobacco, sage, cedar and sweetgrass and cremated them in that fire.

someone once gave me a magnetic business card that says "Backyard Flock Owners" and on it, it says Report any sick birds, Call the Bird Disease Hotline for more Information. 1877-411BIRD does anyone know anything about this? I was suspicious about them, when my chicken died I just tossed him in the dumpster, I didn't want any medling from anyone.. any thoughts?

Don't know about your experience, but here in Washington the state asks citizens to report sick or dead birds. They are trying to track the spread of West Nile Virus. They are not interested in songbirds etc, but mostly wild jays and crows. I called a couple years ago when I found a dead crow in the yard and the collector was on vacation. They told me to wear gloves and bag/dump. Don't think I would report sick chickens though.

Bagged them and put them in the garbage can. We can not bury any animals in our backyard because of the city ordiance that everyone that lost a pet must have it to the Animal Shelter to have it disposed correctly. Yeah right, the vet, animal shelter and our garbages all go to one landfill! Its another thing they charge you extra with your garbage bills.
