When Do you Turn on the Heat?

I have turned both the AC and Heat off- but it's still on!

I simply set the daytime temp to 78 and the night time temp to 65.

It has not kicked on yet so were staying in that range.

I have a wood fire going today! We've been having some here and there to take off the chill and such. Most likely will be having a fire from here on. Plenty of wood in the shed, nice tight stove, two big boxes of books.......

I'm with Speckled...I heat with wood exclusively. Nothing like a wood fire to keep a house warm!

when the house reaches about 55 degrees inside during the warmest part of the day. Right about now. Then I keep the thermostat at about 65

I started a few weeks ago. It only comes on at night if the inside temp falls below 65 degrees. A few nights have been in the upper 30's so the furnace kicked in. I HATE getting out of bed if it's cold! Once it needs to stay on during the day we switch from the propane tank to an outside woodburner. Once we start it up, we don't want to turn it off.

When it gets COLD!

Actually, it was 25F the first week of September, we fired up the furnace to take the chill off in the morning for a couple of days..............haven't used it since. When the house gets below 50F we will use the pellet furnace to take the chill off, but we normally keep the temp in the house about 58F.
In the middle of winter, when it is -40F the pellets are a flying.....it usually runs 24-7.

Ours costs however much chainsaw gas and bar oil we go through. We heat with an outdoor wood boiler.

It does cost a little extra each month to run the circulating pumps (house and garage); maybe $20.

Me too... we have an outdoor wood boiler but haven't fired it up yet. It was 31 outside this morning and 58 in the house. Just a little chilly. We will probably get her going this weekend.

So far it hasn't been cold enough to turn ours on. We have been down in the upper 30's and lower 40's a couple of times but I am trying to hold off. We heat with propane so it's a big hit to the pocketbook to get it filled up. I am hoping to be able to hold off until the 1st of November. We all have electric blankets for the bed so that helps at night.

With propane it can be as much as $3000 or as little as $1000 for the winter here, it just depends on propane prices and how cold it is.

Not that I want to have to think about turning on the heat but I do envy those of you having cool enough weather to make you think about it!! It's been around 90 here all week and mid to upper 50's at night. I don't generally turn on any heat until it gets down to about 60ish in the house and we can easily make it until sometime in November. Right now we're still using our a/c.
