When should I put a safety hole in a call duck egg?

Pics
Congrats on your new baby!

This year was my first time hatching call ducks too, and having read so much about how hard it is for their short little beaks, I worried and added safety holes as soon as the internal pip showed too.

Here's one of our new baby calls❤️

Hope the rest of your hatch also goes well!
Such an adorable little duckling! Thank you! :)

yeah but in the incubator? before they are dry or just when they are up and moving? Also do you put the water in there and let them find it, or do you pick them up then dunk their bill in it? :D

I think you missed these. 🤭

We'll see what Shaw says, but I just leave mine to fluff up in the brooder. I've never given sugar water. Just room temp fresh water. Once they're up and moving around I give them their water and dunk their bill so they know it's there. After that they are good to go.

I don't give them water until they're up and moving around. (In the brooder)

I would, yes. Let it rest for a bit and then move it to the brooder.
Update on the eggs! White is doing amazing still, but resting a lot, but the whole hatching process was a lot on the white egg so I hope it has enough energy, if I give anyone sugar water its probably gonna be white. Pastel I went to start peeling back the membrane a little, when all the sudden pastel popped his/her head out! I put him/her in the incubator and then VERY quickly pastel flopped out of the egg and is VERY active almost doing laps around the incubator and is VERY active and amazing. Penciled has absorbed all the yolk I believe, I can see inside the egg and theres no yolk there so I opened up the membrane and I expect penciled will hatch soon. Nutmeg is still yawning so I assume is still absorbing the yolk! :wee

So exciting!!! Get that pastel in the brooder if you haven't already. Don't want him bowling his brother's and sisters around.
