when to let new chickens out?

I just got 8 white leghorn pullets Tuesday. they are kind of wild but aren't hiding from me anymore when I go out... anyways... how long do I need t keep them penned up, so they will not run off when I let them out? also should I worry about my other 7 chicken hurting them? I have a 3 acre place so there is plenty of room to get away. Thanks!

I believe the rule of thumb is to keep them confined for two weeks, so that they learn where home is.

I'd keep them in the coop and run for at least a week before letting them for a short period at first, not long before roost time, so they won't roam too far. Have a look here also:
