There are tons of "learn to knit" books out there that are great resources.
However, if you actually need to see it done...google my friend. There are videos all over youtube. Knittinghelp.com is amazing. And find a great knitting forum to help you for any questions you might have. I personally belong to (and love) Knitty and the forums over there.
Go buy some Caron simply soft in a decent color (not black! way too hard on your eyes for starting out), snag some needles (size 8 is usually a good size to start with), and do not be afraid to undo whatever you knit. Trial and error are the best teachers.
