Where did they come from???

Welcome to BYC! Glad you've joined us! I seriously just read through this entire thread. What a story! I'm glad that you were able to rescue them! For your nest boxes, you can put in golf balls or ceramic eggs. They will learn. It may take a little bit. And on the turkeys, yeah, they are amazing birds. Turkey math is crazier than anything you can face with chicken math lol. Hope to see you over in the Pennsylvania-unite thread!

Do you garden? IF so, you've just acquired a complete set of automatic: tilling, chemical free weed and insect control, fertilizer dispensing units. If you do not yet garden, then, GARDENING is the next item on your must do list.
If only they would stay awake long enough to eat scorpions I would be so inspired to get more myself, and I wish I could find a bird that would eat fire ants. I've heard guineas eat those but it seems to be hit or miss on the fire ant front for some people it is a yes, others a no. Youtubing "why guineas are annoying" cured me of ordering "Keets"(baby guineas) I made my wife listen to 10 minutes of guinea sounds and we were both cured!

Oh, I have a garden. :) 20' x 50'...with expansion plans this spring. :) ( Another addiction) I tossed my first chicken nuggets into the garden yesterday after cleaning the coop. :)
If you waterproof paint the inside of that coop look up the deep litter method, in 3-4 months I've heard that makes beautiful compost. No personal experience with that yet, but it is in my future plans.

I was actually just reading about this deep litter concept... I'm not quite sure about it...I'm sort of an OCD clean-freak-basket-case when it comes to waste management of pets...and the thought of just tossing poop in the run...and leaving it be sort of gives me the heebie-jeebies...

My Tom Turkey has expired 2 roosters.. He weighs over 45# and does his job protecting his lady friends well. He pays no attention to Chicken Pullets, but out powers and removes Roos from the equation..swiftly with no contest.
you probably just need guineas to occupy that Tom Turkeys time. I watched a great youtube video of a stupid guinea harassing a Tom it ran circles around the Tom and then ran under, ran circles, under again................

That's what they'll do with their eggs too.
So that's a good sign then? They're "tending" to the fake eggs? So they'll know to put eggs in the box?

Oh...and on another note...King has taken to protecting little Bashful against the other girls. Not sure if that means anything...but Mommy is happy that she has protection. :)
