Where did they come from???

I'm 61 y.o. and have NEVAH trimmed a beak! Toe nails, spurs, and made a few bleed. But, never a beak!
Good for you!

The only one (so far) that I've had to trim was a serama, but I know other folks here have done it on other breeds too. YT has tons of videos.
Granted, its not something super common, but it does happen to be necessary sometimes.

One example of many, but this shows how long the upper beak can get

Long ago when I was at a Live Poultry Butcher. In the cages were ROOSTERS. Their top beaks were trimmed. The ranchers:gig that raised them had to do this to prevent injuries if the roosters would fight among themselves. Only the top portion was trimmed. If the bottom was trimmed, the Roo would not be able to drink water well.
The Butch is where I started buying my first chickens. After I pointed out which one I wanted, I would say,, " NO NO NO ,,,,,, I'll take it live" :love

My 1+ month old chick, Eve, has the longest, sharpest beak and nails. I did take a tiny bit off them so not quite so dangerous. She really is a lap baby though and gets along well with the 2-1/2 week olds.
