Where do you buy flocker raiser - or any non-medicated grower feed?

The only feed i can get around here (that i can find) is medicated chick start/grower crumbles or layer pellets.

My chickens are clearly not old enough for layer pellets.

But i don't want to keep medicating them. One, because they don't need the meds in their feed in my opinion. We've had our cocci outbreak - medicated for it with Corid - and recovered. There's no reason to keep medicating them. I don't think that makes them stronger.

Second, I am filtering out some extra cockerels for freezer camp and would rather that they don't eat medicated feed for a while beforehand.

I googled flock raiser and found a couple of places that sell it online, but the added cost compared to what we're paying for the chick starter is considerable, and i'm certain my husband will balk.

Advice anyone please?

I also get mine at Tractor Supply. If you are able to get other Purina products at your local feed store, they should be able to get the Flock Raiser in for you as well. Most stores will be happy to order something they don't usually carry, if they know they have a customer for it.

We don't have a TSC in our town, so i didn't think to look for them in surrounding cities.

I did find a TSC about 30 minutes away that carries Flock Raiser for the same price as we buy our feed now close to home. I've been on the phone for a couple of hours, and i'm surprised at how many places are completely rigid about it.

The lady here in town said 'i don't care where you buy it; it's going to be medicated.' sheesh. It wasn't a challenge, just a question.

Oh, and none of the local stores carry anything by Purina - not for chickens anyway.

Thanks for your help. It looks like feed is going to have to become part of our monthly trip to the 'big city,' which stinks 'cause i would rather buy close to home.

Oh well.

It's the price I am willing to pay to live where I do

When I buy feed it literally weighs down every inch of my blazer...9 of this, 6 of that, 2 of this and of those, need an extra heat bulb, gotta get the dogs their treats...my feed store loves to see me coming

I've actually seen more places that sell non-medicated than medicated. The only thing that TSC carries with antibiotics in it is the pig feed

Nope, the Flock Raiser I've got is NOT medicated. However, I've recently learned that it sometimes IS medicated. And, it depends on the local mill.

Purina's phone # 1-800-227-8941. And, they have a dealer look-up on their website. That gives you a dealer within 25 miles of your location . . . maybe. I found that using a zip code worked only with some zip codes.

The map search worked okay. I've bought at 3 dealers that are within 30 miles of my location and there are 2 more just a few miles farther down the road. One outfit is a pet shop, not a feed store. I've bought there but it's expensive.

If you'd like me to scan the tag that I pulled off the bag - I can send it to that lady. . . . There's no medication.

Have you tried asking for a game bird starter? I buy a game bird starter/grower that is non-medicated. It's 22% protein and, actually, I feed it to all of my birds. Hens of laying age get free-choice oyster shell along side it. I feed lots of other stuff, but that's my base crumble for everyone.
