Which breeds did you wish you got?

This year was a complete flock turnover for me. The chickens I inherited were 3 years old, so I re-homed them and stared new. Did get 2 EE, 2 BO, and 2 double laced Barnevelders. They are all such a gentle and nice group of girls.

I have 3 Oliver eggers coming in 2 weeks. It should be a very pretty basket when everyone is old enough to lay! I may not even keep all 3 Olive eggers, might end up selling one or two of them.

I did really want Speckled Sussex, they are a very pretty bird that lay so well. However they were all sold out by the time I got to order. It was so hard to decide, I wanted a beautiful variety of birds as well as a beautiful variety of eggs.

Mikethegardener, that's a great question! I have many breeds in my flock, but I would, above all else, love to add some Blue Isbars for their beautiful green eggs and other great attributes. I'm also intrigued by the Swedish Flower Hen, Swedish Black Hen, and Ayam Cemani. Coop size and finances are my limiting factors.

My eyes are bigger than my coop/run setup.

LOL - that just means you need to build a second setup...........

I've got Barred Rock pullets, RIR Rooster, a few Golden Comets (great egg layers), a few Brown Leghorn (thinking of moving them on), and just got some black copper marans (about 3 months old). I'd really like to add a trio of Bielefelders (hard to find around here) and a trio of American Bresse. I want to move more toward a dual purpose chicken.

Currently we have 3 GCs, 2 EEs and 2 CMs.

My fiancee really like unusual looking birds so he wants one of those Silver duckwing old english game bantam rooster (mini rooster). He gets a kick out of them being so tiny. As well as possibly frizzles or silkies or polish, just as long as they are different looking for him.

I personally want some OEs next. But I have been the person getting us to add that last two times......hes been on my case to slow down.....

But he did start and half finish a huge coop setup for us that can hold alot when its done......
So he is not really upset about it haha...

We currently have 6 BCMarans (one is a roo) and 1 Blue Copper Roo, 2 Swedish Flower Hens, 2 Cream Legbars, 2 Welsummers and 4 Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas. Only the SFHs are laying as they are the oldest, so I can't comment on frequency of laying. I will say that although 5 of the Marans were bought as 4 week olds and had been handled by the sellers since hatch and my kids and I once we got them, only one is rather brave and more people tolerant. We got 2 as 3 month old started pullets and one of those is more friendly. Of the 2 CL, one is younger, also purchased as a started pullet and she is friendlier of the 2 and comes up to us in her pen. The older CL and the 2 SFH want nothing to do with us. I had wanted to try these breeds but next time I would be chicks or hatching eggs rather than started birds, because these are supposed to be friendly birds but weren't handled at the breeder. My last 6 are the Wellies and Ameraucanas and these are my favorite - bought these as just hatched and one week old chicks. On of the Wellies has feather picked the Ameracaunas so we had to separate them, but the other Wellie and all the Ams are super sweet. They don't usually jump into our laps but they seem to enjoy being held and my kids carry them around a lot. My 5 year old daughter even carries them around in her jacket and they go to sleep.

Breeds I still want to try (will probably be heritage dual purpose breeds) Dorking, Dominique, Faverolles, Rhodebar, Barnevelder, and counting....

If I had ordered every breed I wanted my first time, they'd have had to deliver them by freight straight to my door because the PO couldn't have handled it! I got Golden Laced Wyandottes (ended up disliking them so much I re-homed them), Easter Eggers (really like them, will always have some in my flock) Buff Orpingtons (re-homed all but one of them), Speckled Sussex (also rehomed), Cuckoo Marans (like them a lot) and Red Sex Links, another I won't be without in my flock.
What didn't you like about the GLW?

I think I would add Blue Laced Red Wyandotte if I had the space. I love my SLW, Marans and Lavender Wyandottes. I added a few more EEs for color and I have a nice group of red sexlinks that should start laying soon.

I want...no, I NEED some La Fleche. It is the one breed of chicken my husband wants and if he is willing to agree to more chickens, well, we need them! Lol I also need a few green/blue egg layers. I would be perfectly happy with EEs. I have brown, light tan, white and dark chocolate eggs but no blue or green! :(

My naked necks are some I would never live without. They are terrific layers, go broody too and make awesome mommies, are sweet and cuddly, and look just adorable! To me they are the perfect chicken! :love

In my flock I found the 5 of them to be total bullies. One would start picking on a chicken and the other four would rush in and join in. Hated that! The lady I gave them too had almost as bad a problem with them because all of the chickens she had came from my same flock, but the new surroundings (even though her setup was smaller) seemed to curb some of it. But they were just plain nasty!
